The
cliffs of Carolles and Champeaux are a
must-see in Normandy, and more specifically in the Granville area. On the programme: a
relaxing family hike in the heart of nature!
The cliffs of Carolles and Champeaux
Just a five-minute drive from the hotel (or a 30-minute walk for the more experienced), the cliffs of Carolles and Champeaux offer an
exceptional panorama of the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel.
Varying in height from 60 to 80 metres, the cliffs are
rich in vegetation including heather, broom and blackthorn.
The fauna is not to be outdone: the cliffs of Carolles and Champeaux are favourites with
migratory birds and are also home to
numerous insects and small reptiles.
Take a
photo break near the
Vauban huts that line the trail. Built in the
17th century, they were used as guardhouses to watch over enemy ships during the First Empire.
Practical info: to take full advantage of these
magnificent landscapes, you can follow
the 6km loop starting from Carolles, on the GR223. Allow 2h30 to 3h for the walk.
