One of the oldest Premonstratensian abbeys in Normandy
Your walk through the Lucerne Forest will give you the opportunity to discover a
medieval monastery complex dating from the 12th century. Walk along the
Thar river to reach the Lucerne Abbey.
Founded in
1143 by
William the Conqueror, it is a fine example of
medieval pre-monstratensian architecture.
Restoration and
reconstruction work has been undertaken since 1959 to preserve this abbey nestled in a
green setting in the hollow of the
Thar valley.
Listed as a
Historic Monument since 1928, the abbey is striking for the
strength of its history and the
preserved authenticity of its environment.
